HR uses salary calculators not for individual paychecks but for compensation analysis: comparing job levels, evaluating offers, and modelling total compensation including benefits. The math is the same as a personal salary converter; the framing is different.

The 2,080-Hour Year (and Why It's a Lie)

40 hours/week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. That assumes you work every one of those 52 weeks. In reality, a typical full-time US employee gets 11 federal holidays, 10-20 days vacation, and some sick leave. Effective working hours are closer to 1,872. The hourly equivalent of a $60,000 salary is therefore $32.05/hr, not the $28.85 the 2,080 math implies.
