2. Summary
MSO Calc is a static website with no user accounts and no server-side collection of personal data on our part. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser; your inputs never leave your device. The two practical exceptions are (1) standard hosting access logs at our hosting provider, and (2) third-party cookies set by Google AdSense and similar services that may serve advertisements on this site.
3. What We Collect Directly
None of your personal data is collected on our own servers. Specifically, we do not:
- Require account creation, sign-up, or any login;
- Operate a contact form that stores submissions (our contact page links to an email address);
- Transmit calculator inputs to any server (they're stored locally in your browser's
localStorageonly, so your scenarios persist between visits on your own device); - Sell or share user data of any kind.
4. Hosting Logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs for operational and security purposes. These logs typically contain:
- Your IP address (anonymized where technically possible);
- Browser type and operating system (user-agent string);
- Page requested and timestamp;
- Referring URL (if any).
Logs are retained for 7-30 days and used only for diagnosing technical issues, mitigating abuse, and detecting attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation of the website).
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We use the following on this site:
- Local storage (essential): Your last-used inputs are saved in your browser so calculators remember them between visits. This data never leaves your device. No legal basis required (no personal data leaves your control).
- Third-party advertising cookies: Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to serve, personalize, and measure advertising. Details below.
You can clear all browser-stored data for this site at any time using your browser's privacy/clear-site-data settings.
6. Google AdSense (Important)
This site uses Google AdSense, a contextual advertising service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to:
- Serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites;
- Measure ad performance and detect ad fraud;
- Provide aggregate reporting to publishers (us) about ad views and engagement.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google's Ads Settings:
You can also opt out of third-party vendor advertising at www.aboutads.info (USA) and www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK).
For full details of Google's data practices, see Google's advertising policies and Google's Privacy Policy.
Cookie consent (EU/UK): If you visit from the EU, UK, or another region that requires consent for non-essential cookies, you will see a consent banner from Google's Funding Choices service. You can change your consent decision at any time by clearing site data and revisiting.
7. Other Third-Party Services
- Google Fonts: The Inter font family is served from Google's CDN. Google may log the request (including IP) for performance and abuse detection.
- Open Exchange Rates (open.er-api.com): Used by the currency converter to fetch live FX rates. The API call discloses your IP to the rate provider. Used only when you visit that specific calculator page.
8. Your Rights Under GDPR (EU/UK/EEA Visitors)
Where the GDPR applies, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR) — to know what data we hold;
- Right to rectification (Art. 16) — to correct inaccurate data;
- Right to erasure (Art. 17) — to have your data deleted;
- Right to restrict processing (Art. 18);
- Right to data portability (Art. 20) — to receive your data in a portable format;
- Right to object (Art. 21) — to object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77).
Because we do not collect or store personal data on our own servers (see Section 3), most of these rights apply mainly to data held by our third-party processors (Google, hosting provider, font CDN). Direct rights-requests for those parties to the parties themselves are usually the fastest route.
The competent supervisory authority for us is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kavalleriestraße 2-4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany (www.ldi.nrw.de).
9. Your Rights Under CCPA (California Visitors)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights regarding your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any CCPA rights, email privacy@msocalc.com.
10. Children
This website is not directed at children under the age of 13 (16 in the EU under GDPR), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. The calculators themselves are safe for any age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@msocalc.com and we will delete the information.
11. Data Retention
Hosting logs: 7-30 days. Browser local storage data: persists until you clear it. Third-party (Google) data: per Google's published retention policies, typically up to 14 months for ad-personalization data.
12. International Data Transfers
Some of our third-party services (Google, in particular) are located in or transfer data to countries outside the EEA, including the United States. Where this occurs, transfers are protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), or equivalent safeguards.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the law, our practices, or our service providers change. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top, and significant changes will be highlighted on the homepage for at least 14 days.
14. Contact
For privacy-related inquiries, please email privacy@msocalc.com or write to the postal address listed in Section 1.
